Waste Treatment Plant's Low-Activity Waste Facility export bay Class 2 permit modification
The U.S. Department of Energy is holding a 60-day public comment period and meeting on a proposed Class 2 permit modification to the Hanford Dangerous Waste Permit. If approved, the modification would allow the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant’s Low-Activity Waste Facility export bay to be added to the permit as an additional container storage area. Extra container storage is needed to stage sealed waste containers until they can be disposed of at Hanford’s Integrated Disposal Facility. The export bay storage would supplement existing storage in the facility’s transportation staging area.
