Nonpoint pollution remains a key issue across Washington. It takes coordinated strategies to address sources of nonpoint pollution across the landscape. The Dept. of Ecology's Nonpoint Program is committed to support the actions and partnerships necessary to be successful in this effort.
Our Voluntary Glean Water Guidance for Agriculture (Clean Water Guidance) is a technical resource for agricultural producers that recommends best management practices (BMPs) to protect water quality. It is intended to help producers meet clean water standards while also supporting healthy farmlands. The guidance is comprised of separate chapters, uses best available science, and is reviewed by our advisory group.
We previously completed the first 5 chapters of the guidance, approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The remaining 8 chapters are due to EPA by Dec. 31, 2025, and will be submitted alongside the 2025 Nonpoint Plan.
We are currently accepting comments for guidance chapters due at the end of this year. We anticipate regular updates to these and previous chapters in the future.
